Due to economic constraints (lack of work), I will be unable to attend Contata, and thus have two attending memberships available for sale. If you're interested in acquiring them (at the pre-reg price, which is what we paid), please contact me. Thank you. -- Callibr8

I'm sort of trying to find something...fandom friends, or maybe just friends.

I'm 35, bi, gf, married with a kid. I live in Wales, I work in a pharmacy and write fiction and poetry too.

I've got five cats and four chickens.

I will always love Stargate (SG-1 and SGA) and Trek (TNG, DS9, VOY) I have passing interests in other and currently love Dragon Age, MCU, Steven Universe, Brooklyn 99. I don't write as much fanfic as I used to still have a lot of ideas peculating up there. I miss being part of fandom though I've always felt like I was on the fringes.

I ship f/f and het mostly, and I read that too but I will write anything. Any pairing. I'm either mental or gifted. Not sure which.

I love old films from the beggining to the 70s. Love MST3K. The new series was great. I love crap films, I hate reboots but I will watch them sometimes.

I have a post here that has more about me if you want to check it out.

Seeking Coders for Contata

At Contata, a pick-up chorus will be performing Kanefsky's "Code" (ttto "Men of Harlech"), as arranged in Ed Stauff's "The Scared [sic] Harp." At the last MASSFILC filksing, we had people on alto, tenor, and bass, but adding some singers would be nice, especially sopranos to sing the melody in the proper octave! If anyone would like to join in, let me or Keshlam or Ellen know. We'll be doing it as part of the GoH concert. We'll squeeze in a rehearsal at some point.

+1 pretentious weeb!

NAME: Ryu, or Daley outside of DW/roleplay.

AGE: 25, can't wait to be whatever the male equivalent of a Christmas Cake is next year!

INTERESTS & HOBBIES: Animals, anime, art, computers/electronics, food, foreign languages and the cultures associated with them (spanish especially), goth garbage, halloween, LGBTQ stuff, monsters, movies and tv shows, music, roleplay, shiba inu puppers (I own one!), video games, writing... Wow, I'm so unique!!!

LOOKING FOR: I suppose I'm just looking for people who share common interests with me at the moment. I've linked my profiles for MyAnimeList, etc., above if anybody wants more specific details on my fandoms of choice. My main fandoms are Aikatsu!, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! though. I'm not into live action stuff as much as I am with cartoons and I'm not big into popular live action canons either, so no SPN or MCU for me.

ANYTHING ELSE?: I'd like to think of myself as an open-minded guy, although I don't take other people's bullshit easily. I deal with fibromyalgia, mental illness, insomnia, crippling perfectionism, gender dysphoria, and my body generally being a giant unwanted mess, and I'm trying to live life as drama-free as I can while crossing my fingers that I can get my brain transplanted into a new body and mysteriously find a million dollars in my bank account. Puns, sarcasm, and self-deprecation are my bread and butter for lifting my spirits. Icon related.

EDIT: I am adding, the next day, that the owner of the shop has reached out to me, and offered an apology and to try to get to the bottom of what events unfolded outside the store that left me so upset. I will be speaking with him in the next few days and appreciate that they reached out.

Original vent / post:
West Somerville folks - I just had a terrible experience in Teele Square, bad enough that I would like to spread my rage at the proprietor of a local business, the Knight Moves Cafe on Broadway. Please stay far away from this business with kids. If you have any kids who walk to and from the west somerville school, please make sure they steer clear of the business as well.

The proprietor (edit: manager) of this business threatened to call the Somerville police and made my children cry, for the crime of disagreeing over what to get with a few bucks each at the conveience store, and the crime of waiting for me on the sidewalk rather than inside the dry cleaners on the same block, and then choosing to get into my unlocked car with the cold drinks they had bought at the convenience store, while my 5 min errand lasted 15 min because the folks at the dry cleaners were trying to repair a broken zipper for me on a coat I had cleaned out of my closet and intended to donate.

Seriously if you have any choice in ever doing business with them, and support the right of elementary school kids to have a little independence and learn from their disagreements on whether mom said they could get ice cream, I urge you steer clear.

I am FURIOUS at having been confronted for going to the dry cleaners and letting my kids go to the convenience store to enjoy their refreshing cold drinks. And I even like board games and was pleased when they came to town.

I am SURE that plenty of kids the age of mine walk home from WSNS through Teele Square every school day. Yes, even when it's hot out. But if your first grader has an argument with their big sibling in the vicinity of Teele you can expect the police to be called, next time.

I know that you can get free passes from the libraries that are good for a specific day, and I was wondering if anyone had more than they need for any days coming up soon. And I know that members get free passes as well. I would love to go, but can't afford the normal cost.

Thanks!

Over the past few days I was surprised to walk by these three businesses and find them closed. Anyone know when they closed, and why?
  • The Shawarma Place, in Cutter Square (EDIT: moved to 215 Highland Ave)
  • Aguacate Verde, in Wilson Square

The shortest way I can describe myself is a nerdy lesbian hippie. I'm 30 and live in Colorado with my adorable cats. I love crafting. Making things with my hands brings me so much joy. I crochet, make all of my own skin care products, and dabble in anything that looks like it's be fun to make myself. I spend a bunch of time outside birding and exploring nature around me. I've also been known to spend time waving signs at protests. Not necessarily because it's fun, but our current political climate is scary and change happens from the ground up. Other than than, I absorb podcasts and books pretty much like they're both air.

I'm looking for equally geeky people above 25.

Are there any realtors here?

Are there any realtors here? Commercial realtors even better.

I'd like to get a reality check (is that an inadvertent pun???) on the viability of doing a storefront "pop up" art gallery in and around Davis Sq and the environs. I have some questions about what to consider when approaching building owners and how to make my "pitch" more attractive and acceptable.

Please PM me

It looks like the national discussion of climate issues may be stunted for a while. But that's all the more reason to get involved locally on making changes and influencing directions for our city. There's a meeting coming up to discuss this, details at the link.

We are launching this project at the first Somerville Climate Forward Community Meeting on June 26th. Meeting details are as follows:

“Hardscaping” for Your Urban Garden

Somerville Garden Club members Dorothy Africa and Eleanor Ramsay will give presentations on the creative use of plantings and materials to mask unfortunate views or brighten up dark areas, in the small gardens typical of many Somerville and Cambridge neighborhoods. Dorothy Africa will present practical ideas for “hardscaping” -landscaping in a hard place – with inexpensive and creative materials. Eleanor Ramsay will present a slide show of how she turned her literal hardscape, an asphalt parking lot backyard, into a shady garden retreat.

Tickets for the Somerville Garden Tour will be on sale at the meeting. There will also be the usual Q and A and raffle. All Somerville Garden Club meetings are free and open to the public. 7-9pm. Meetings are held the at the Tufts Administration Building, (TAB), 167 Holland Street, second floor, wheelchair accessible. Parking is available, and the building is a ten-minute walk from the Davis Square MBTA stop.

Also, we hope you'll join us for our first Garden Tour since 2013
SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2017 11:00 am. – 4:00 p.m. Rain or Shine! $18.
Big Gardens, Small Spaces
A Self-Guided Tour of Member Gardens

Can anyone recommend an arborist? I've got some trees that need cutting back and I want someone who won't kill the tree and won't fall off a ladder (both of which are things I could plausibly do by accident).

Well this is nice...

I've kept track of my works-in-progress and works-in-the-queue in various ways, in the past--lists and so on--but yesterday I decided to whip up an Excel spreadsheet about this. No math involved, but Excel is so good for checklists. I'll be keeping tabs on information for each project: start date, deadline, finish date, name of pattern, pattern source, yarn source, etc.

*runs off gleefully to do some crocheting*
